PARTNERSHIP WILL INCREASE DEPTH, DIVERSITY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF LOCAL JOURNALISM

The Daily Herald, Everett, WA, is excited to announce a new partnership with Journalism Funding Partners (JFP) to increase investigative journalism and environmental and climate change reporting.

“It's clear that newsrooms must seek new ways to help pay for local independent journalism that plays such a key role in a vibrant community and democracy,” said Josh O’Connor, The Daily Herald publisher. “JFP believes in helping newsrooms connect with funders for improved sustainability, and we’re excited about their support so we can increase our reporting capabilities and keep our community informed.”

JFP serves as the fiscal sponsor for two of The Daily Herald’s journalism funds:

  • The Investigative Journalism Fund supports labor-intensive and time-consuming investigative reporting that benefits the Everett and Snohomish County communities.

  • The Environmental and Climate Change Reporting fund supports the funding of stories that shed light on the local impacts brought about by climate change.

JFP’s mission is to increase the depth, diversity and sustainability of local journalism by building and stewarding connections between funders and news organizations. JFP is an organization that is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity under sections 501(c)(3) and 509 (a) (1), (2) or (3). It works with news organizations across the United States.

“We are delighted to add The Daily Herald to JFP family of news organizations as it strives to bring credible investigative and environmental reporting to the Pacific Northwest,” said Rusty Coats, JFP Executive Director. “This coverage will make a positive impact in the lives of everyone in the Everett community.”

For both the Investigative Journalism Fund and the Environmental and Climate Change Reporting Fund, JFP accepts tax-deductible contributions from individuals, nonprofits, corporations, local businesses, philanthropic foundations, and others who believe that the local, trusted journalism of The Daily Herald supports a vibrant community and a healthy democracy.
