What appealed the most about Napper when JFP was searching for a grant manager was her ability to secure substantial funding for education and social impact initiatives. She has a track record of authoring grants totaling eight figures and has played a pivotal role in bringing transformative projects to life.

Napper is determined to change how journalism works through building a stronger team of journalists committed to covering education and social justice topics. Like JFP’s mission, she wants to make sure that voices often overlooked get heard. When asked to comment on what she hopes to accomplish with JFP, she said, “I hope to continue the advocacy for the importance of journalism funding and JFP's role in supporting a vibrant and independent media landscape.”

“JFP has been on an accelerated path to bring more funders and newsrooms together, and we knew we needed to add capacity to our team,” said JFP Executive Director Rusty Coats. “Phelena’s fundraising and grant management skills will help us to continue to bring a multiplier effect to our work, and she’s a great fit with JFP’s mission-focused culture.”
