Director of Operations and Finance

Status: Full-time exempt (no overtime), 90-day introductory period

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Remote (USA)


Job Summary:

Oversee JFP’s operational, financial and administrative functions to support people, programs and organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

Administration and Systems Design (50%)

  • Create systems to track organizational impact and lead the organization toward further growth and sustainability

  • Manage organizational tools and resources

  • Handle grant intake and disbursements

  • Oversee internal program evaluation

  • Maintain compliance tasks and manage consulting agreements

Financial Management (25%)

  • Lead budgeting and advise on financial planning

  • Support fundraising strategy and ensure budget coverage

  • Manage daily financial practices and monitor financials

  • Handle financial reporting, audits and tax filings

  • Update financial policies and represent staff to the Board Finance Committee

People Operations and Leadership (25%)

  • Collaborate on organizational vision and culture

  • Attract, develop, and retain talent

  • Design policies for recruitment, hiring, performance management, and employee support

  • Manage payroll, benefits, and compliance paperwork

  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes

  • Plan retreats with staff support

Skills and Qualifications

  • 7-10 years in operations design, with non-profit accounting knowledge

  • Experience in grant management (application, acquisition, disbursement, tracking, etc.)

  • Experience in financial management tools and annual audit processes

  • Experience in employee processes (recruitment, hiring, performance management)

  • Strong prioritization, problem-solving and customer-service orientation

Teamwork Skills

  • Uphold organizational values: data-informed, equitable, inclusive, people-centered and transparent

  • Use digital tools for organization and communication

  • Collaborate strategically and give/receive constructive feedback

  • Celebrate wins, learn from experiences and iterate on work

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Stationary desk work 90% of the time

  • Travel for staff retreats (1-2 times/year) and annual conferences/events (3 days/year)

Salary

  • $70,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience and performance
